Medvedev's retrieving approach and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had caused observers to doubt if his capacity to play at the elite level was over.

But the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete assertively, reinforced by an better serve.

He recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, took control to force a final set.

The opponent saved four initial opportunities in a tight deciding set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, he clinched the win with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
